Survey

Hi everybody,

As you know it is in my new year resolution to blog more. So I have decided to spend a little more time on tuning the content, and as we all know from web design, Content is King!

So you will have noticed there is now a survey link in the main site navigation. It will take about 2 minutes to complete and it should help give me some direction. If you are too lazy however I have included the link below.

Any spare change?

Hi everyone,

I am going to warn you that the following is an advert, but its for a product that I really like and I am the one selling it. If you are anything like me then when going to the shops your wallet always tens to be bulked up with lots of change. The one that seems to follow me around is having a ton and a half of 20p’s. However ladies and gents, I have a solution, enter the Coin Sorter!

I have previously had the the older version of this but I have recently upgraded to the newer version (shown above) because of its smaller form factor. I brought these from a shop in Newbury which was closing down (credit crunch and all that guf). As the guy was willing to shave a few bob off the price I decided to buy a few. In fact I brought four as I was feeling spontaneous and had the cash in my pocket. So I have replaced my old one and the other three are up on eBay. Santa introduced me to this cool gadget and it is 10 times more useful than I thought it would be. eBay link below.

Ad over. However I will add that this is a very useful product.

They Shure sound good!

If you are into recording audio then just from the title you probably know what this is going to be about. So for those of you who aren’t aware of Shure make lots of audio equipment and are most well known for their microphones. They produce the two best selling mics of all time (the SM57 and 58) and if you have seen a mic being used in a pro environment, for example in broadcast TV or venue work then the chances are it was one of those two. And by the way I love my little SM57.

So then I though I would share with you three great new products from Shure that they have been showing off at CES (The Consumer Electronics Show). I though these were best in show as well. So first in the line up are two “Large diaphragm, side address, cardioid condenser USB microphones”. So what that essentially means is that they are great for recording pretty much anything in your bedroom, like acoustic guitar or vocals, and will also plug straight into your computer via the USB port. So these two babies, pictured to the left are the PG27 (the darker one) and the PG42. The difference in these is that the PG42 has been tuned for vocal frequencies, i.e. if you were singing or recording a podcast. One other note is like the Rode Podcaster these two suckers both have a headphone jack on which is useful for “low latency self monitoring”, your going to have to look that one up on google.

Now the last product is something that I think is very cool. Now, I own an Edirol UA25 which is an analogue to digital convertor, basicly it takes two analogue XLRs in and turns it into digital goodness which is sent to the computer via USB. I am very happy with my Edirol, however if this product was about before I brought my Edirol it would have been a different story. What Shure have made is a little usb device that plugs into your computer and will take an XLR in and convert it to digital audio. Very very useful, yummy and cost effective. By the way this also has a headphone jack for “low latency self monitoring”. This is X2u and retails for $129.99.

So I’m Shure (sorry) that potential podcaster or people recording audio at home found that useful. If you want to see me spew more audio geekness out then comment and ask questions in the comments. Then again if you just like the comedy crap then tell me you prefer that, however I hope you liked this post.

Hippie Glenn Editing Diggnation

If you don’t watch Diggnation or watch it occasionally then you probably haven’t seen the following. This is “screen cast” of how Glenn McElhose edits the show. I don’t personally like how the video has been put together but it is still cool never the less. Also if you have never seen Diggnation then you will have to wait till the next post to get some content. Check out Diggnation at Revision3.com/Diggnation.
